Pilates is a movement method that was created by a brilliant man named Joseph Pilates. Pilates is a way of life, a way of “Returning to Life.” Pilates is a method of connection. A way of connecting to yourself, your environment and world around you as a whole. It is more than exercise, it is a conceptual method.
Pilates, “Contrology,” is a method that enhances the deep inner mind-body connection while allowing greater ease of movement and increased self-confidence ad comfort during daily life tasks. The Principles of Pilates; Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath and Flow, create an framework that instills the holistic approach to self-care, self-awareness and peace and wellness of mind, body and spirit. By enhancing the breath focus, the Pilates Method allows the system as a whole to achieve, maintain and sustain a more calm and relaxed state of existence.
The GYROTONIC expansion system uses specifically designed equipment that enhances the body’s freedom of movement without restrictions. The movements are fluid and three dimensional, allowing muscles and joints to find an organic fluid strength. Coupling spiral movements with measured opposition allows the body to move freely through space, working the body from the inside out ultimately bringing the mind, body and spirit into union.
The repetitive circling, spiraling and undulating exercises are performed in a set fluid rhythm providing strengthening movements with coordinating breathing patterns. These whole body movements are expansive, creating space throughout the spine with no end point to the movement: sculpting the body, developing overall strength and flexibility, improving immune function, enhancing coordination gaining stamina.
Bowenwork® is a system of touch that initiates a series of responses through stimulation of the nervous, musculoskeletal, fascial and energetic systems of the human body.
The purpose of a Bowenwork session is to activate the innate healing mechanisms within the body so that, given time, the autonomic nervous system will self-regulate, energy will move more freely, and the body will heal to the extent it is able.
The work is gentle on the body. In line with Bowenwork’s overarching philosophy of “Less is best,” we aim to provide only enough inputs to elicit the body’s healing response. The number of inputs and length of the rest periods are determined for each client during each session; hence sessions do not have a fixed duration but rather can vary from a few moments to an hour, with the rest periods generally taking more time than the hands-on work.
